Bezitters van de Final Edition van OS4 kunnen per direct de 'Update 2' gaan downloaden. De release brengt 200 AmigaOS4 componenten up to date inclusief honderden bugfixes, verbeteringen en nieuwe features. Hyperion belooft - na een ontwikkeling van vier jaar - dat deze versie AmigaOS4 een stuk robuuster en gebruikersvriendelijker maakt.
De changelog is dan ook bijzonder lang, wat zit er zoal in:
Een nieuwe Exec kernel, versie 54,28. Naast stabiliteit en bugfixes is dit een greep uit de nieuwe zaken:
- SPE-optimalisatie voor de Amiga A1222 processor.
- Nieuwe 'delayed disable' voor de multicore scheduler.
- Diverse multicore functionaliteit: de kernel wordt voorbereidt voor het gebruik van Amiga's met meerdere kernen zoals de X5000, X1000 en de Tabor A1222.
Verbeteringen aan de USB-stack:
- Betere ondersteuning voor USB hubs, fixes voor toetsenbord en muis op een X5000/040.
- Robuuster met USB-randapparatuur zoals opslag en midi, welke zich niet altijd aan de industriestandaard houd.
Zes nieuwe systeemcomponenten:
- Het append dos commando.
- Diskdocter voor OS4.1 van Olaf Barthel (hij werkt aan AmigaOS 3.2 voor de classic Amiga's).
- SataControl voor X5000 en A1222 machines.
- Appdir-handler zorgt voor een virtuele cache ENVARC:Appdir zodat bij het verplaatsen van bestanden de vindbaarheid voor bijvoorbeeld Amidock intact blijft.
Integratie van de Cybergraphics API in Amiga graphics.library, die op haar beurt weer compatible is met Picasso96.
- Onder andere in het animation.datatype, de getcolor.gadget en het printer.device is dit aangepast.
Update 2 is gratis voor iedere Final Edition bezitter en draait op de X5000, X1000, Sam440/460, Amiga's met PowerPC accelerator, ook de oudere AmigaOne's zoals die van Eyetech en de Pegasos van Genesi / bplan GmbH zijn compatible. Verder zit er in Amigaforever een OS4.1 PowerPC emulator waarop OS4.1 ook kan worden geïnstalleerd.

Hyperion Entertainment is proud to announce the immediate release of update 2 for AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition. Update 2 is by far the largest update ever released for AmigaOS and includes more than 200 updated components with hundreds of bug fixes, improvements and new features and six completely new OS components. The update is the combined effort of four years of AmigaOS development and will bring AmigaOS4.1 Final Edition to a completely new level of stability and usability.

We strongly recommend that you install update 2 on top of a fresh install of AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition update 1. If you decide to update your existing installation you should back it up beforehand!
